    This module will review concepts of Systems Thinking and Human Factors and their impact on patient safety. Also, the second victim phenomenon and how it relates to patient safety events will be discussed.

  • Module 2: Quality Improvement

    In this module, gain insight in Quality Improvement (QI), including The Donabedian Model of process, structure equaling outcomes. Also, develop a greater understanding of how to frame outcomes and use the QSEN competencies as a way to outline QI initiatives.

  • Module 3: Data Analysis

    In QI, data analysis is crucial as it helps you understand if there is a problem that needs to be fixed. This module reviews nurse sensitive indicators and the idea of process and outcome metrics in data analysis. The idea of benchmarks is discussed as well as various external benchmarks are identified. Data collection and analysis including the use of control, run, pareto and pie charts are reviewed.

  • Modules 6-11: White Belt Quality Improvement Course

    Nursing leaders have a unique opportunity to improve the quality of care and align necessary resources to drive best patient outcomes. We must be systematic and innovative in our efforts to stay focused on what we all come to work to do; deliver safe and effective care to drive the best patient outcomes possible. At the completion of the White Belt Quality course, the nurse leader will be able to describe the importance and understanding of how we as nurse leaders can fundamentally keep our patients safe and design the delivery of exceptional, equitable care by using the Science of Improvement and key improvement tools.  

    In the White Belt course, the nurse leader will learn how to Design a QI project with concepts and tools used in effective QI efforts. Examples of some of the tools White Belt will introduce you to are; developing a SMART goal, how to use Flow charts, outline the use of FOCUS PDSA methodology, how to design PDSA cycles and utilizing time ordered data charts that will help you understand normal and special cause variation while learning how to lead a QI initiative and plan appropriate interventions to drive improvement.
