How can we not only heal from trauma, but use it as an opportunity to grow personally and professionally? One nurse’s experience with her own traumatic birth and the repercussions from her experience. This session will explore trauma-informed care and the ways that perinatal and neonatal staff can support families during and after birth.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Learner will be able to identify 2 contributors to the development of post-traumatic stress disorder for those experiencing birth trauma within the perinatal setting.
- Learner will be able to identify and understand at least 2 initiatives that were implemented as a result of post traumatic growth.

April Castaldi is a wife and a mom to an amazing little girl and a set of adventurous twin boys. She lives near Portland, OR, and has been a NICU nurse for the entirety of her 13 year nursing career. Following a traumatic birth of her twin boys, she has devoted her practice to trauma informed care, increasing awareness of the impact of birth traumas and creating the space for healing.
